What I saw on my walk today

Another beautiful day! I saddled up Mini and off we went to walk the Kora trail at the Tibetan Center. A picture of the Spring in an Indiana woods. Like a thousand other pictures of an Indiana Spring...but since it is my walk I can put yet another one here!


George has been very busy setting more flags on the trail. I was so happy I took a picture from Mini's eye-view! Thank you, G!


I did get a little concerned when I saw the log across the ravine.....

Just sure that I would see yellow flags leading the path across the log! But not to worry - the path continued to wind around down on the ground where it belongs.

Lots of nice surprises on the trail.....a very nice bridge and so nicely made!
Mini is checking for safety - wonder dog that she is...


All was well, we come across stone steps, Mini is wondering why I am not sprinting up them just like she is!

Happy days - we break into the cool air again and head for home! It was a very nice walk although it got pretty hot and I discovered that I need to do more hill climbing.

Spring in Indiana = Thunderstorms/Tornados

Some pretty intense weather Friday, March 23rd!

The storm....sky dark...taken right after it passed through - the white across the bottom of the fence is what was left of the hail that poured down on us.


The hail was intense - I couldn't get a picture without damaging my camera but got some of the aftermath - this isn't snow - it's hail that came off of the roof and also through the downspout.


This was on my deck, I looked outside and the hail was coming off of my neighbor's roof so heavily it looked like a waterfall.....


The squirrel's nest in the trees behind my house made it through...again. Those nests must be glued to the trees so they don't blow away!


One of my only 2 tulips was cut down in the prime of it's life....just sheered off by the hail, poor thing.


Very interesting skies after the storm passed.

No direct hits here in town - thank goodness! There will be another, though, there always is, as sure as there are little green apples.

What I saw on my walk today

First - I am struggling with learning a new computer. I now have Windows 7, quad core processor, lot of memory (8GB) and speed, the best graphics processor I could find...all good things for editing pictures. At least, I believe they will be good things. The learning curve is steep - the filing system for my programs and files is very different and I am loading my programs bit by bit. Finally loaded the photo editing program I have used for years. I do have Photoshop on this computer but I don't yet know how to use it yet so am sticking with what I know for now.

Yesterday had storms and almost-tornados here in a quiet Southern Indiana backyard. Today was beautiful and Mini took me out for a 3.7 mile hike on the walking path that runs behind my house. There were lots of Path People out and it was good to exchange greetings with Path People, and their dogs, that I haven't seen since Fall.

Our first encounter was with the horses at the therapeutic riding stables....


One of them thought Mini was pretty interesting and came closer for a better look. Of course, Mini, Warrior Princess, was ready to fight the horse and growled a challenge. I just have to wonder what is going through her little mind....at 7 pounds? What is she thinking?


It was just darn pretty out and a joy to be able to enjoy the weather and the Path People.


We ran into a Path Person we haven't seen since last year. I don't know the gentleman's name but Chico, his little Chihuahua, was just a puppy last Fall and had to be carried most of the way. He's not much bigger now but he scampers along on his own steam now. Such a cute guy! Of course, Mini....yes, growled a challenge. He is the only dog smaller than she is on the path...and she still wants to fight. He might weigh 3 lbs - go figure! I think he was smitten with Mini, though...I swear I saw him wink at her and call her 'Big Mama'!


Beautiful day, beautiful sky, beautiful trees...I hope it repeats tomorrow!


Tomorrow - more practice on the new 'puter with my storm pictures from yesterday. I hope.

Lots of yellow!

Spring has definitely sprung - record breaking temperatures, beautiful blue skies, and the Goldfinches actually turning Gold from olive drab. I have never seen this before, didn't even know Goldfinches lived here until Patty and Rose gave the bird feeder! (I still intend to get even somehow). Here is a little fellow who is starting to change to all yellow!

Apparently I am not done with the needlefinders. Because I found myself taking more pictures. I found a couple more of which I hadn't yet taken pictures. So -here is more!
First - the prototype....poor little mishapen guy. I wasn't sure how to stuff them or how to get an 'edge' on them so this is the hackysack needlefinder as the very first. I did one side in black and red and the other in gold and red

I decided I wanted more of an edge to them so sewed them together differently. Here are the very last pictures of these darned things!

Just a picture of my 'needle finder' pincushions. I think I've made as many of these that will be made by my hand! It is always fun to learn new stitches and this is peyote stich, which we know well, although perhaps not so many times around in such a detailed pattern!

Frank Lloyd Wright Bird

Yes, I believe - this bird was designed, and perhaps built, by Frank Lloyd Wright....who knew?! But we are just an hour away from Columbus, IN, famous for it's FLW architecture and, therefore, a possiblity.



Patty told me the bird had nothing to do with FLW but was a Nuthatch. I like my original version better. However, he/she has nothing over the Finches! This Finch is like Mini - 10 foot tall, bullet proof, and telling the FLW bird to get lost or he'll pull his face off!

New bird #2! A Carolina Wren, trying to peer around the lady Cardinal.


New bird #3....new birds....a whole swooping bunch of new birds....dive bombing the suet. I didn't know what to think although, as you should know by now, I always take the opportunity to bug Patty since this is all her fault. Apparently, these are the lowly Starling!

I don't think they care what you call them, just don't call them late for dinner! They are bold guys!

We finally had a snowy day a couple of weeks ago, maybe 1 of 2 this year!

Cardinal boy didn't like it - said his butt was cold!


The rosy Finch said he was smaller and his butt was colder! I know this isn't a good picture - what I would have given if rosy Finch was in focus! But I wanted to continue the 'cold butt' theme so I had to use the picture. I don't have a clue why the focus is behind my little fellow - I had the focus right on him! Oh well.

Honestly, I don't know how the little birds stayed warm with their tiny little bodies and tiny little feet. Even considering increased circulation and BMR! Seems like they would freeze through in minutes. Not like my well-insulated self! I would last a long time!
