Dawn on Halloween....

Next - for the Beady-Eyed Bunch!
Beading class.....I am taking a beading class from Russ Ellis. In July I posted the beautiful beaded Thankas that he did that hang in the temple in the Tibtan Cultural Center. It has been a long long time since I have done any flat beadwork, sometimes called bead embroidery. However, taking a class with Russ is one of those opportunities that rarely ever come along so I am taking advantage of it!

This is what I am working on - is is about a 10 X 8 inch piece of 12 oz cotton duck on which Russ, bless his heart, drew a willow tree! I wanted to bead a tree and, of course, I can't draw a lick. I was lucky enough to be the only student in class that day so Russ helped me out! In my little world it is like Picasso signing your check or something! With Russ' help it took me a little over an hour to get a couple of the roots beaded with Russ helping me with selecting the color of beads....oh, and actually finding the beads in his own stash of beads because, of course, I hadn't brought any.

Here she is.....

The arrows you see on the right side is Russ' reminder of the direction the sun is shining! I wouldn't have thought of that!
I left class with my piece and, clutched tightly in my hand, a little plastic bag with the beads in it.

A couple of close ups of the beading thus far. He wanted me to continue with it during this week and add more beads up the right side of the trunk. Unfortunately, I get a little sick to my stomach when I think about beading on it by myself so I am going to wait until he is there in the room with me again!

Stay tuned. I will continue to post my progress, or maybe lack of, here!

And, last, but definitely not least....

I watching football with Mini and happened to have my cell phone handy. She is quite the football fan and turned around to ask me to please be quiet. She was polite but, then, she always is. Joe would be proud of her!

10.10.10

10-10-10 - sounds like an advertisement for a local grocery store!

The beautiful weather continues here in Southern Indiana. The drought continues as well. I have heard that dry conditions cause the color change on the trees to be very rapid so I captured some of them yesterday.

Of course, I have to get my little corner of the world in here!

And a scrawny little deer!!! The drought has been hard on every creature!

I also visited a 'fun fair' at a therapeutic riding stables down the street from me. I have driven by it many times but never stopped in. Got a shot of one of the riders in the arena and she was doing very well! She had a good seat and urged her horse into a cantor shortly after this. Very nicely done, much better than I can do!

The name of the organization is PALS, here is their website if you are interested:

One of the horses - hoping with all his might that you can't read!!! My mother would have this sign ripped off and be petting him and stuffing carrots in that poor horse's mouth! And she would have already caught the scrawny little deer and be feeding her up, too!

And, for the Beady-Eyed Bunch - a new pattern! It is by Carol Ohl - the one that designed the Lacey Daisy - and is called Baby Bubbles. I've been learning Right-Angle Weave (known as RAW) and this is a very simple one. Uses size 11 seed beads and 3.4 mm drops (also known as fringe beads sometimes). Unfortunately, I used 2.8 mm drops - not much difference between 3.4 and 2.8 but enough to make it not quite like the pattern! I now have one started with the correct size drops. It doesn't take very long - you can easily do a bracelet in an evening.
The first picture displays the colors more accurately - these are green drops with gold 11's. The next two were taken in the morning and the light changed the colors to almost all gold. I thought that was quite cool so just kept the pictures as they are instead of re-taking them!

October 1st - my little corner of the world....

After partying hard with the Beady-Eyed Wild Crowd last weekend (couldn't you tell? Quite the rowdy bunch!) I thought it was time to step back and appreciate my little corner of the world here in Southern Indiana! So a few mundane pictures.

My little webcam on my backyard world. It would be nice to think those leaves are turning a beautiful Fall color now that it is October 1st.

Also, in my little corner of the world. The little paper cactus buds are now both having little buds!
